My five-year-old son, James, often misplaces his favorite toy. As soon as he realizes it’s missing, panic ensues. Believing he'll never see it again, he becomes inconsolable- completely lost and alone in the moment.
How often do we find ourselves feeling lost, and furthermore, lonely in our loss? Most of the time in those moments, we are not actually lost; rather, we've misplaced our perspective on the world around us and ourselves.
In the first few verses of Ephesians, Paul describes the new identity believers have in Christ. That he chose us in Him before the creation of the world. That we are called beloved through Jesus by the Father. And on top of being chosen and beloved, we've been given every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
Talk about destroying the negatively held beliefs about ourselves!
The question is whether or not we allow the Holy Spirit to find us as we are- lonely, lost, scattered, overwhelmed, overcommitted, stressed, hopeless- and fill us anew.
Start this week knowing that "He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world," and let that be enough for every stressor or overwhelming circumstances that comes your way.
Let's get to it.
