A mother from Nigeria in need of diapers for a newborn. A dad from Egypt in need of groceries during the summer for his two boys and wife. A mom from India in need of coats for school-aged children as the winter months approach. Hard-working, humble individuals who are far from home and need to know that God sees them when they are struggling.

When I reflect on the countless families that have found hope within our doors, my mother’s words echo in my mind- “if not you, then who?” Dr. Louise Davis, my mother, affectionately known as “Weezie” to our family, spent her entire life advocating for children and families who needed hope. Jesus teaches us that “whatever you do for the least of these, you do it unto me…”  This teaching sums up her purpose in life. She stood in the gap for the children of Mississippi, particularly the marginalized, and made it her life’s work to serve them.

This type of selfless service, compassion, and advocacy is what I consider to be “the Weezie way.”

The Wesley’s Weezie Way Fund is designed to support students and their families when basic needs are unmet during college. To make this effort sustainable, we are asking for monthly contributions so that we can be ready to respond at a moment’s notice when a need arises. Our goal is to continue her legacy by caring for children and families in their times of need- as they pursue their dreams in the form of higher education.

The Weezie Way Fund will be managed by the Methodist Foundation, which currently offers a 5.35% interest rate. As contributions are made monthly, the fund will grow and we can draw from it whenever there is a need.

If not the Wesley, then who? Or what? Together, we can live out “the Weezie way” and provide light to those around us. We hope you will empower us through the Weezie Way Fund to reach out and support students, families, and children in need.​​​
